Mohana Das from Malaysia asks if one passes on is he born into the same lineage. Gurudeva says that this is usually the case for if not it would be confusing for the inner mind. He also asks what he can do to do only good things. Gurudeva says that this is usually based on habit so he suggests making a list of all the good and bad things that he does and then do only the good things.

In this talk:

Cyberspace devotee wonders if the reading of religious books and the listening to religious music is an escape from the world. Gurudeva says it is an escape from the external world to go into the internal world and by studying Gurudeva's Master Course he will change his approach to Sanatana Dharma. A cyberspace devotee from Brazil wants to know why the cow knocked down Satguru Siva Yogaswami. Shouldn't such great souls be free of karma he asks? Gurudeva says that great souls like Satguru Siva Yogaswami often take on the karma of a group and often it requires a little bit of suffering on the part of the guru.

A modern mystical master, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami (1927-2001) was one of the world's most traditional Hindu Saivite spiritual leaders. He urged devotees to find their true Self, to see Siva everywhere and to live life joyously. He was the 162nd Satguru of the Kailasa Parampara, a 2,200-year-old lineage of spiritual masters originally from South India. It was from his beautiful monastery headquarters in Hawaii that he gave these daily inspired talks.

In this talk:

Nine year old cyberspace cadet Yatrika from Sunnyvale, California wants to know where does everybody go when Siva absorbs the entire universe during the time of Mahapralaya. Gurudeva reassures her that this will not happen soon and explains about Mahapralaya. Another cyber devotee asks how does one become a Saiva Swami. Gurudeva says to become a swami one has to settle all affairs within the world and within himself so that the world renounces him.

In this talk:

A cyberspace devotee in Singapore wants to know why the middle finger is used to move the beads when performing japa. Gurudeva says that the index finger is not used because if it was it would gain a lot of energy and if ever it was pointed at someone it could injure them in some way. Another cyber devotee wants to know if the performance of pranayama can lead to samadhi. Gurudeva says that pranayama harmonizes the masculine and feminine energies, tunes up the physical and astral bodies and sets the foundation for meditation.

<itunes:summary>An inspired talk by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami. Originally published at Kauai's Hindu Monastery daily page: www.gurudeva.org/taka

A cyberspace devotee wants further explaination on the term liberal Hinduism. Gurudeva says that he looks at it as a new Indian creation to sort of be a Hindu and sort of not be a Hindu. Another cyber devotee asks what she should do during the 31 day retreat after a death in the family. Gurudeva says it is what you don't do that is important and that one should not go to the temple, worship in the shrine room and visit holy men and women.

A cyberspace devotee from Malaysia wonders which side should the men and women stand in the temple. Gurudeva says that the men should stand on the right and the women on the left and this relates to the ida and pingala forces because the temple itself is like a one body. In today's second question posed to Gurudeva, Gurudeva advices a cyber cadet who inadvertently revealed a sacred mantra to a relative.

A cyberspace devotee in Botswana asks if one should have a guru that is alive or does it matter if he is not alive. Gurudeva says that a guru who is not alive will not be able to talk to you and that by having a guru who is alive one can communicate freely with him and it will be of a greater benefit. Another question this time from the state of Virginia where a cyberspace devotee asks is everything that happens to you good? Another cyber cadet asks if one can have two gurus? Gurudeva says that it is traditional in Sanatana Dharma that a family has one guru. Gurudeva says that this is well explained in the glossary section in the book Merging with Siva. Gurudeva then goes on to explain in short what these forces are. Another cyber question is put forth to Gurudeva from Malaysia, this time asking about the caste system. Gurudeva says that even in the United States there is a caste system but here it is called a class system. He suggests that in Malaysia the caste system be thrown out entirely as it brings hurt feelings to many people.

An e-devotee from California asks about the influence of India and Hinduism on the politics of the future. Will India become the light of the world? Gurudeva explains in depth how the tradition within Hinduism was not a total separation of Church and State, like in the West, but instead the religious leaders were sought out by the heads of state and communities for guidance, advice and admonition. Gurudeva says it takes great courage for religious and political leaders to work together. But if the political leaders understand their religion and their part within the religion, it will happen.

When Chennai artist A. Manivelu was visiting Kauai Aadheenam, he was impressed with the disciplines of worship and sadhana at the monastery's Kadavul Temple. He asked Gurudeva to tell the world (via TAKA) about the functioning of the temple. Here, Gurudeva tells of the disciplines of 24-hour adoration, pujas performed every three hours, writing prayers to the devas and more. Listen in, and tune in to the temple.

In this talk:

A cyber cadet asks why some bury and others burn their dead. It often surprises people to learn that, as Gurudeva describes, the principle behind burial is the belief that those same bodies will rise up again, renewed, on the final judgement day, to once and for all go to heaven. Hindus, of course, cremate their bodies to free themselves from being bound to it, knowing that they will get another.
